End of the Trail

I sit alone,
Astride my horse,
Both of us bloody from battle.

Weary from war,
I return to my home,
To see my family once more.

My horse is as tired as I am
And we will both drop over.
Almost dead from exhaustion.

The brave warrior returns after fighting the white man,
They tried to take our lands,
But the mighty nations together banded.

We fought like warrior poets,
We fought like men,
We fought to the very last and had not failed.

Home we travel,
Over distant miles,
Hungry and exhausted,
We ride to the end of the trail.
