My Big Fat Baptist WeddingMy fiancé and I are preparing for our wedding to occur on Friday, June 22, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois. Needless to say, we are having a very large wedding party with 6 couples of attendants, plus the flower girl, ring bearer and two ushers.
We are having the wedding in shades of blue and lucky us, the church is decorated in shades of blue, and so we don't have to do that much decorating.
I have picked out my dresses, the co-matron's of honors' dresses, the bridesmaids' dresses, my daughter's dress and the flower girl dress. My daughter and oldest son will be giving me away while my youngest son will act as ring bearer. The Tuxedos have been a series of negotiations. But we have finally decided on one that is classic and timeless as well.
My dress is covered in seed pearls and is as lovely as a movie star on me. In fact, the first time I had it on, I felt like a movie star. The train is cathedral length and made of chiffon. The dresses that the girls will be in, flatters their complexions.
Now I am in the process of gathering addresses in order to determine the amount of invitations to order. And also to search for a reception hall large enough to handle everyone comfortably.
Instead of a sit-down dinner, we are having a dessert reception. We figure that by the time the evening ceremony begins at 7:30 pm, everyone would have eaten dinner. So therefore a dessert reception is more appropriate, not to mention the cost would be less.
I have decided that the girls and I are to take over my apartment and the guys will have to find somewhere else to go for the tradition is that the groom cannot see the bride from sundown of the night before the wedding to the ceremony. Knowing my luck, he will have forgotten something and will have to come home to get it.
But one thing is sure, this is going to be the wedding I have always dreamed of and it's to the man that I have always dreamed of marrying. He's everything I have searched my life for and more. He's understanding, kind, loving, the total package.
I have never been in love like this before. He loves my kids and they get along wonderfully. He cares if they get medicines on time, he gets them up to go to school, he loves to have dinner as a family and cooking out on the grill on the weekends for the entire family and playing football with the boys is one of his greatest joys.
My joy is to sit on the back porch and watch them. To have a man that accepts me for all my flaws and to love those flaws is the dream I have had ever since I was a little girl.
Now my dream will come true on Friday, June 22, 2007 and I will never look back and regret any of this.
