Laws You Never Thought Existed, But They Do!I was browsing the Internet and came across a website called "Strange Laws." Some of these laws had me rolling in laughter so hard that tears came down my face! I wanted to share some of these laws with you all so that I wouldn't be the only one laughing at these ridiculous laws that are still on the books to this day.
For instance, it is illegal to whale hunt in OKLAHOMA! Where is there water big enough to fish for whales? Maybe the aquariums, but not in the lakes! I was thrown out of an aquarium for bringing a fishing rod one day with me. I think you need a spear gun and a net for a whale. I'm not sure about that so I'll research it and get back to you on whale hunting.
Only on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday may theaters in Glendale, California show horror films. Yeah, that's going to up the box office helping of "The Exorcist: The Beginning!" And what happens on the days that those "Scary Movie" parodies get released? When do they show them? Just how long has this law been on the book?
Now this one is a STINKY one. Every citizen in Kentucky is required by law to take a bath AT LEAST once a year! Some one has to remind me when it's bath day in Kentucky so I can make my travel arrangements around it. Or buy enough air fragrance trees to hang on every person I come across in Kentucky!
Ok, now this one I just don't get. In Providence, Rhode Island, it is illegal to buy a toothbrush on Sunday, but yet you can purchase mouthwash and toothpaste. What are you supposed to use? Your finger or an eyebrow shaper? Or do you just go the one day without brushing your teeth if you are a visitor to Rhode Island and you forgot your toothbrush?
Ok, now I want to know who tried this in order for it to become a law in North Carolina, for it is written that you may NOT use an elephant to plow a cotton field. Just tell me what cotton farmer came up with this brilliant idea. And where did he get an elephant to begin with? Also where did he house the beast? A barn or a circus tent?
An old law in Bellingham, Washington, made it illegal for a woman to take more than 3 steps backwards while dancing. Now if they have changed this law or not, I do not know, but I bet it made the Foxtrot and Tango very popular dances in Bellingham for a while! Lord knows you could not do the Viennese waltz and get away with it while this law was active! Or the jive for that matter!
In 1952, the United States made it illegal to make candy out of barrel cactus in order to save this species of cactus. I don't know about you, but I've had cactus candy before and it was soooo gross! No wonder they outlawed the making of candy from the barrel cacti.
Well, this is just a sampling of the funny laws I found on-line. I hope that you enjoyed reading them as well as my musings about were they came from and why they were even laws to begin with.
